The Dean of college of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Bahr El Ghazal, Dr Thomas Madit Timothy, has been appointed recently as a member of South Sudan’s General Medical Council with (17) other members.
This was disclosed in a ministerial order “No. SSGMC –2/2023 for the appointment of the Members of the South Sudan General Medical Council”, issued by the National Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr Martin Elia Lomuro, on date 22 June 2023.
Other members of the medical council include, Dr Rose Ajak, chairperson, Dr James Alphonse deputy chairperson, Dr Issac Cleto Hassan Member, Dr Kenneth Lado Member, Dr Simon Deng Nychar Member, Dr Justin Bruno Tongun Member, Dr Cangkel Banak Riek Member, Dr Garang Dakjur Member, Dr Atim Sheril Atim Member, Dr Yang Liep Charow Member, Dr Achwanyo Ezekiel Member, Dr Abdullah Majok Member, Dr Anwar Zakaria Jaden Marjan Member, Dr Lucy Vero Pai Theophilis Member, Dr Achol Marial Member, Dr Monywiir Arop Member, and the Registrar for the council to be appointed later.
The South Sudan General Medical Council (SSGMC) is an autonomous body responsible for the registration and regulation of medical, dental and pharmaceutical professions as well as regulation of health institutions and services in the country. It was established through the SSGMC Provisional Order, 2014 issued by H.E. General Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan on the 10th of April, 2014.
Is worth mentioning that along side Prof.Thomas Madit the current Dean of college of Medicine and Health Sciences, the University got two former Deans of same college appointed in the council; Dr Rose Ajak and Dr Isaac Cleto respectively.
