College Of Medicine & Health Science

The College of Medicine at the University of Bahr El Ghazal is a leading institution in the field of healthcare. It provides a comprehensive education for aspiring doctors, nurses and other health care professionals.

Overview

The College was established in Khartoum / Sudan in the 1991.  In the 1992, the first batch of students was admitted into the college. The Duration of study in the college is six years after which the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is awarded to successful candidates. Thirteen (13) batches have been graduated so far and currently 231 students are enrolled in the programme.

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences is a community based health institution running different health related programs. Currently, Medicine and Public Health are functioning while Nursing and Midwifery shall start soon in partnership with Mary Help College of Nursing and Midwifery, an affiliate of Bahr El-Ghazal University.

Our vision is to be a leading Centre of Medical Training, Knowledge and Practice.

We strive to provide quality medical education by developing and training medical and health professionals that are capable to improve the health of South Sudan people. We also endeavour to promote health equity by providing quality health education, research and health services.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the MBBS programme, the graduates should be able to:

    1. diagnose and treat patients as well as delivering relevant medical consultations and services;
    2. solve health problems at individual, family, community and national levels;
    3. identify and provide quality emergency care and curative health services;
    4. conduct and analyse necessary bedside laboratory tests;
    5. work in collaboration with other health team members in harmony for effective delivery of health services;
    6. adapt to the working environment and consult with senior medical professionals when needed;
    7. refer difficult cases to relevant specialists;
    8. upgrade their skills and knowledge in medical and health sciences by continuous medical education and professional development;
    9. critically analyse and apply new evidence based health practices when handling health issues;
    10. conduct research on prevailing and emerging health problems as means of improving health services and providing appropriate solutions; and
    11. specialise in different fields of specialisations in Medicine and health sciences

Program Objectives

  • to train and develop highly skilled medical professionals / Doctors who can deliver quality health care and services to the people;
  • to promote health awareness among the local communities;
  • to provide preventive and curative health services to the nation;
  • to conduct scientific research in the prevailing and emerging health problems and provide evidence based medical practices in preventing and solving health problems;
  • to establish links with other similar health institutions locally, regionally and internationally.

The duration of study in the college is six (6) years composed of four (4) phases. Each phase is divided into semesters as follows:
